WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Check your home for plastic in all its forms, especially the overuse of single-use plastic.
- Join us, Beyond Plastics Santa Fe, the local affiliate of Beyond Plastics. See our contact page.
- Shop at merchants that don’t use plastic bags: Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Natural Grocers
- Tell other merchants that you do not use plastic bags: Take your own or ask for paper, and tell them why you are doing so.
- Consider the consequences of “single-use” convenience:

Polystyrene foam food containers and cups contain styrene, a chemical compound the National Toxicology Program (NTP), in the 12th edition of its Report on Carcinogens, stated is “reasonably anticipated to be a carcinogen.” The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified styrene as a “possible human carcinogen."

- Replace cling wrap, which is a petroleum product that cannot be recycled and is designed to be for single use, with beeswax wrappers, cloth or glass containers.
- Enroll in an online seven-week course given by Judith Enck, founder and President of Beyond Plastics.
- Consider the fact that the only plastics that are fully recycled are #1 and #2 (milk jugs, soda bottles).
- Contact decision-makers: Tell them to read up on the dangers of plastic and pass legislation such as plastic-bag bans:
